Our exhibition aims to dispel psychosocial barriers faced by people with disabilities who are often recognized as a minority group. Presenting a series of stylish, innovative and well-designed Assistive Technology (AT), we hope to reach out to everyone to try and experience them. We have also lined-up a daily list of brilliant presenters who are scheduled to speak at our symposium. In our hopes to broaden the boundaries of the event, we are going beyond Shibuya Hikarie to hold a special test ride event on 14 November at Miyashita Park and other activities to engage the streets and bring alive the goal of making assistive welfare a reality by 2020.

Whenever you hear about assistive devices and technology, do you think that ‘oh, it has nothing to do with me’? In Japan, although infrastructure barriers such as in buildings and roads are lowered year by year for those with mobility issues, the psychosocial consciousness barrier amongst people remains high.In this exhibition, we aim to present a series of well-designed assistive technology which goes beyond basic mobility functions you would also think is stylish to wear and interesting to use. At the symposium held simultaneously with this exhibition, we have gathered pioneering researchers and experts,as well as people who never thought they would associate themselves with assistive technologies, in an exchange of dialogue towards a positive, forward-moving key value of ‘super assistive welfare.’ Let’s think about making “the streets of Shibuya a place of super assistive welfare in 2020” a reality. Let’s give super assistive welfare a place in Japan, a place in the world.
